Requirements for gin [7 (1) (b); 27 (1) (a)] [To index]
Gin shall –
(a) be produced by –
(i) the distillation of the fermented mash of grain together with juniper berries, irrespective whether
common salt or harmless aromatic plants or seeds have been added thereto;
(ii) the redistillation of any other class of spirit together with juniper berries, irrespective of Gin has whether common
salt or harmless aromatic plants or seeds have been added thereto; or
(iii) the admixing of the distillate referred to in subparagraph (ii), and any other class of spirit;
(b) have the distinctive taste and aroma characteristic of gin and be clearly distinguishable from other classes of
spirit; and
(c) have an alcohol content of at least 43 per cent.
