Calcium Chloride is used by brewers to lower the pH and add water hardness to the beer. Use up to 1 teaspoon / 5ml per 5 gallons / 19 litres before the boil.

One of the primary salts used for the boosting of calcium levels in beer, proper calcium levels in beer can lower pH, preserve mash enzymes, increase extract yield, improve yeast growth and flocculation, accelerate oxalate removal, and reduce colour. The chloride ion is believed to promote a palate fullness, sweetness, or mellowness within the flavour profile of the beer.
