*Please note that recipes are subject to change.

In the 1830s, when England started to kiln malts in a new fashion, Anton Dreher and Gabriel Sedlmayr II had taken this idea/technology from the English and applied it to their own grains/malts. Anto Dreher created a malt with a little more caramelised flavour and called the malt Vienna Malt which he combined with Lager yeast to introduce the first Vienna Lager to the world in 1841.

Whilst Dreher was busy with his experiments, at the same time Sedlmayr experimented himself and created the very popular Marzen style beer. These two beers are very similar with Marzen being higher in alcohol, less hoppy flavour, and a sweeter taste.

After world war I Vienna Lager seemed to have faded from everyone’s memory in Europe but Mexico kept it alive, although changing the style a bit.

Our recipe is based on the European and traditional styles of the beer and malts used to create a beer with aromas of bread and toastiness with low hop aromas and bitterness.
