Belgian Witbier

It is believed that Belgian Witbier is a recipe that comes from the monks, as early as the 15th century. Called a Witbier due to the hazy colour of the beer, and creamy mouthfeel. Additions of bitter orange peel and coriander seeds are also synonymous when it comes to your traditional Witbier, where spices and fruits were used traditionally instead of hops. Refreshing, spicy, with a fruit finish, and a dense white head, this is a beer that is enjoyed whether the weather makes you sweat or shake.

Belgian-style witbier is brewed using unmalted wheat, sometimes oats and malted barley. Witbiers are spiced with coriander and orange peel. A style that dates back hundreds of years, it fell into relative obscurity until it was revived by Belgian brewer Pierre Celis in the 1960s.

Our Witbier kit includes:

Grains, hops, yeast

Excludes:

Coriander, Sweet Lemon Peel.

Using fresh lemon peel is the best way to make the best-tasting witbier. Grate the peel of fresh orange. Just make sure not to include the pith (white part) of the peel, as this will add an undesirable bitterness. For a twist on this recipe, use a lemon/lime instead!
